2000 BuickI think that it’s safe to say that when you have a kind heart and nice smile you can change the world. At least you can try to change your world. Melina Salazar was just an ordinary waitress who did her job everyday and put up with all the customers that she had. One of her regular customers was WWII vet – Walter “Buck” Swords – who was described by Melina as “kind of mean”.

He would swear at her and yell at her – but she would still serve him with a smile and give him everything he needed. In return Walter willed her $50,000 and a 2000 Buick after he passed away in July. I’m sure the old man had tipped her well in the past – but nothing could beat this one.

Wow…that’s a huge tip! I really enjoy reading your blog; it always has great dialogue. I was wondering if your readers have heard anything about online carbon calculators. Especially with with emissions. I am not an environmental nerd but I came across a couple, and with everyone going green these days I thought I would check out my footprint. I took my test at, and the EPA site along with Does anyone know about any other ones? Let me know, and it would be cool to hear any thoughts on these things. That’s a great story – especially since I used to wait tables in college. I can appreciate how hard it is to keep angry people happy. Thanks for the pick me up!

Now that is what I call an unusual tipper! I wish I could meet the guy personally and ask him why he gave the Buick as a tip.

I am glad Walter M. Swords gave his tip to Melina Salazar in his last will and testament after his passing and went Home to be with the Lord. Swords has no family of his own and he has a heart of gold.

I love that story. I am sure she was happy about it. Reminds me of that movie with the waitress and the cop with the lotto ticket. Didn’t think it actually happened in real life!
