Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Ultima GTR -Fastest Car In the WorldBritish carmaker Ultima has broken its own world record for the 0-100-0 mph dash for the third consecutive year, using the road-legal 200 mph Ultima GTR supercar.

Driven by Ultima director Richard Marlow, the British-built and designed GTR set a new world record time of 9.4 seconds for the 0-100mph-0 sprint. The GTR did 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds, 0-100mph in 5.3 seconds and braked to zero from 100mph in 3.6 seconds - all of which are in themselves road car world record times. No traction control devices or ABS braking aids were used.

The Ultima GTR used for the successful record attempt was the factory’s standard production specification Ultima GTR640 demonstrator, which has recently been upgraded with a 720bhp Chevrolet V8 engine and is now known as the Ultima GTR720.

The GTR720 is fully road legal, equipped with a standard five-speed G50 transmission and a standard production engine option from Ultima’s official OE engine suppliers American Speed.

Ultima director Ted Marlow said: ‘The Ultima has opened up a new league of road car performance with these new independently verified figures. The Ultima GTR is now over two seconds quicker from 0-100mph-0 than the McLaren F1 LM and over one and a half seconds quicker than the Ferrari Enzo.’

The new Ultima world records were conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology, acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as the official timekeeper. The car is a company demonstrator and was driven to and from the test venue.
