Toyota Predicted To Be World’s Largest Automaker

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

Toyota Logo EmblemWhile General Motors is working hard to hold the line on U.S. sales in a stagnant market, Toyota Motor Corp. continues to forge ahead. Interviewed at the Reuters Auto Summit, Toyota exec Irv Miller forecast that the company is anticipating a three to five percent U.S. sales increase in 2007.

While the 2007 forecast pales in comparison to this year’s numbers, which have seen the automaker’s U.S. sales rise 11 percent so far this year, the additional sales should be enough to help Toyota replace GM as the world’s largest automaker sometime next year.

Like GM, Toyota is looking at a new pickup model to fuel U.S. sales growth, with its new Tundra set to launch early in 2007.
