2007 Dodge Charger

April 9th, 2007

2007 Dodge ChargerThe Dodge Charger is one of America’s most revered performance nameplates. It was originally an icon of the muscle car era, the Charger, but recently has been reborn as an affordable performance car, and it’s one of the better ones available in this expanding market niche.

The Dodge Charger debuted in the mid 1960s as a response to America’s growing interest in average cars with above-average performance. This two-door coupe boasted aggressive fastback styling and big V8 power (including Chrysler’s famed 426 Hemi). As with similar vehicles of this time period, however, the Charger’s glory quickly faded after 1970 due to rising insurance and gas prices, higher emissions standards and changing consumer tastes.

2007 Dodge NitroIn a time of day when many automakers are changing to timid alpha-numeric designations for their vehicles, you have to give Dodge thumbs up for unashamedly turning to weaponry and explosives when it comes time to showing off its new vehicles. 2007 MagnumThe Magnum gets no major changes for 2007. This large wagon is a companion to the Dodge Charger sedan and shares its basic design with the Chrysler 300 sedan. Magnum seats five and offers V6 and V8 engines. SE models have a 190-hp V6. SXT versions have a 250-hp V6.

The R/Ts have Chrysler’s 340-hp Hemi V8, and high-performance SRT8s have a 425-hp Hemi V8. The 340-hp V8 uses Chrysler’s Multi-Displacement System that deactivates four cylinders while cruising to save fuel. All Magnums have automatic transmission: a 4-speed on SEs, a 5-speed on others. Rear-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is available on SXT and R/T versions.
