December 5th, 2006

2008 Volvo C30Volvo is breaking into a new vehicle division with its conveniently sized small, sporty C30 hatchback. It follows the design of a concept vehicle by the same name that was shown at the Detroit auto show back in January.

The company hopes to sell 65,000 C30s annually. Although it will be sold in the U.S. as a 2008-or-later model, the primary markets will be Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.K., Volvo said. The car goes on sale in Europe and other foreign markets next summer and officially debuts at the Paris auto show in September.

2007 Volvo S80The 2007 Volvo S80 is past due for a makeover, as the current generation went on sale in 1998 and has since been overtaken in price and performance by various other Volvo models.

The all-new 2007 S80 flagship sedan will be the first Volvo sedan to come with a V8 engine a version of the compact yet powerful unit in the XC90 V8. Cars equipped with this engine will come with all-wheel drive and produce 315 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque. One or two other smaller engines will also be available in North America.

2007 Volvo C70

November 12th, 2006

2007 Volvo C70The 2007 C70 retractable-hardtop convertible is a milestone in Volvo’s transformation from boxy, sensible vehicles to sleek, sporty, safe vehicles. From bumper to bumper, Volvo nailed the execution with this car, its most competitive model ever and the best, most versatile four-season convertible you can buy.

A stealth convertible, the C70 looks like a coupe to unsuspecting onlookers. Thirty spectacular seconds later, it’s a convertible, its sectioned roof stored in the trunk. I say spectacular in the purest sense of the word: The fully automatic articulated top is a spectacle that stops surrounding traffic. A global window switch on the driver’s armrest allows all four windows to be raised or lowered simultaneously.
