Hybrid Revolution At A Stand Still

Hybrid Toyota PriusAs the highest-volume and most famous gas/electric hybrid, the Toyota Motor’s Prius sedan sets the tone for the hybrid market.  Unfortunately its American sales are down 3% this year?  What is this saying? Are buyers suddenly less worried about fuel sonsumption? Have they stopped liking the looks of the car? Or more likely, the demise of a $3,000 tax credit is to blame. Hybrids are simply not the deals that they used to be.


Heavy-Duty Pickup Trucks By Toyota And Nissan Delayed

2007 Toyota Tundra Double CabBoth Toyota and Nissan were planning on entering the full-size heavy duty pickup truck market soon, but both automakers have delayed joining the fray for at least a couple years. Nissan had hoped it could build a heavy-duty version of the Titan off of the half-ton’s platform, but it’s clear that the truck’s frame won’t be able to meet the minimum payload and towing targets that heavy-duty truck buyers demand.


California Sues Automakers Over Global Warming

Traffic In CaliforniaCalifornia’s attorney general on Wednesday sued the six largest U.S. and Japanese automakers for damages related to greenhouse gas emissions. The federal lawsuit alleges that emissions from their vehicles have harmed Californians’ health, damaged the environment and cost the state millions of dollars to combat their effects.

“It’s part of a strategy to address global warming,” Attorney General Bill Lockyer told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. “The goal of this one is to hold these automobile manufacturers accountable for the monies taxpayers are spending to address these harms.”
