We came across a great article over at motorcycle.com about a pair of budget value’d 600cc ’sporty’ bikes. Seems that the big push for ’sport’ bikes are on the downswing and many riders are looking for something alittle more practical than a race bike – what you have are two of the major players stepping up with a pair of sport cruisers – sport bikes with alittle less race and a little more comfort.

Both of these bikes (Yamaha FZR600 and Suzuki GSX-600 Katana) have been around for a long time, and they’ve been locked in a fierce battle for supremacy. Five of their editors go toe-to-toe about who they feel is the winner. Unfortunately they’re lacking in up-to-date stats, a 2007 motorcycle comparison would be great. Either way, you can’t go wrong. Motorcycle.com sums it up best by saying “These motorcycles might not give you leading-edge technology, but you do get proven components that’ll meet the budgets of most everyone — especially starving students or beginning riders. If you don’t need to have the trickest, quickest, fastest and newest model, either one of these Value 600s will satisfy your demands for a good, solid streetbike”.

Confirming rumors circulated earlier this week, Nissan Motor and Suzuki Motor announced Friday that they will expand their current collaboration agreement worldwide, including an increased rebadging of each other’s vehicles and joint operation of manufacturing facilities in emerging markets. The new agreement was announced by Nissan COO Toshiyuki Shiga and Suzuki President and COO Hiroshi Tsuda at a Tokyo press conference (right).

According to Reuters, the new move is seen as an indication that Nissan may take an equity stake in Suzuki, now that General Motors has sold off most of its Suzuki shares.

The new deal will see Nissan provide Suzuki with a minivan for the Japanese market, while Suzuki will provide a new small car for Nissan’s Japanese lineup. In North America, Suzuki will rebadge a Nissan pickup starting in 2008. Nissan’s European market portfolio will include a new “A” segment city car from Suzuki, also appearing in 2008.

Cooperation in emerging markets will begin with production of Nissan cars at Suzuki’s facilities in India.
