Must… Sell… Cars… Top 10 Cash Back Offers
September 17th, 2006
Automakers with remaining 2006 inventory are getting desperate in some cases to get rid of their lot. Cars.com has assembled the 10 best incentive offers based on the percentage off of a car’s base MSRP, and Kia tops the list by offering 26.32% off the Sorento and 23.87% of off the Sedona minivan.
Why so much? Because they’re 2005 models! The third vehicle on the list, however, is the most appealing to us. Saab wants to get rid of the last remaining 9-2X models and is offering $5,000 off of the car’s base MSRP, which amounts to a substantial 21.75% discount on what is essentially a more luxurious Subaru WRX. The rest of the list is as follows.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Sedan
August 17th, 2006
During a webcast that will begin shortly, Chevy GM Ed Peper will officially launch the new 2007 Chevy Aveo sedan for the US market. (The car’s page is already up at the Chevy website, if you’re interested in checking out the specs in detail.)
The new Aveo gets a dose of panache with a restyle that bestows some chunky good looks on Chevy’s low-priced econocruiser. The beefy nose, with it’s raised, V-shaped center section is very evocative of the VW/Audi look out there today — this is not a bad thing at all. The lower fascia gives the car a mildly aggressive appearance, with nicely integrated foglights available as an option.
Challenger and Camaro Showdown
August 16th, 2006
Chrysler picked a pleasant midsummer afternoon on Tuesday to show off its upcoming Challenger pony car to the media, but the party was briefly interrupted by the appearance of its soon-to-be showroom rival. The boys from Chevrolet picked this moment to roll through with a car transporter carrying its Camaro concept, which was on its way towards a media event of its own.
Jason Vines, Chrysler’s VP of communications, dismissed the “lameness” of what he claimed was a “wuss” stunt, and pointed out that his company’s muscle car didn’t need to be brought to the event on a trailer. The Camaro is very much drivable, as we know, so maybe the best way to handle this little squabble would be for each automaker to stop jawing and head over to Milan Dragway to settle the dispute like real men. We’d pay extra to see the PR guys take the wheel and line ‘em up; that’d be some quality entertainment. Read the rest of this entry »
