2008 Pontiac GTO
Thursday, June 8th, 2006
The new 2008 Pontiac GTO is going to come in the showrooms in 2007 as a 2008 model. With the spy shots we could see hovering on the Internet, the car more or less looks clean. The car is most likely to be built at Hamtramck or Wilmington plants in US.
The future car will be built on GM’s Zeta platform, which is developed in Australia by GM’s subsidiary Holden. The car is delayed as the new GTO is first developed in Australia and then the plants in America will be retooled for the production of the car.
The 2008 Pontiac GTO will be powered by 6.0L LS2 engine with 400 hp and will have a six speed manual transmission. The Zeta platform gets fresh suspension, with a added classy independent rear end assuring better traction and superior handling. The wheelbase is increased to 110 inches.

I certainly hope that Pontiac doesn’t bring that ugly thing out as a GTO. The new GTO NEEDS TO BE A RETRO OF THE 65 OR 67 model.
Wake up Pontiac!

I’m with Mike. Please, GM, don’t release the Goat looking like this. You’ve taken the worst styling features of the 77-78 Trans Am and gobbed it onto the front. Borrow some Cadillac CTS parts if you have to, but give it stacked headlights a la 65-67 GTO and keep the split grille. Oh, and lose the RX-8 fender bulges.

What an abortion job. GM will never get it. I rather by an old goat and restore it even if it costs me $40k plus. The car looks like a Mistubishi Diamonte on steroids. It’s ungly as hell…

Gm please listen to the public! We are your best critics. Give the people what they want. Dont build the new gto to look like this. If this car is build,in my eyes your 04-06 gtos are gold! can u say camero styling

GM lets think about this, last year I read you stock was considered junk. I can honestly say that if you bring out this GTO in this picture your are going to lose more money. You got a sucessful line in the Aussie version, bring that over. I was waiting to buy a 2008 GTO but if this comes out will go with something else.

COME ON! Leave it to us Americans to ruin a good thing! I CURRENTLY HAVE A 2004 GTO and I like it. GM fixed the exhaust mistake and put out a dual exhaust with one on each side instead of the dual exhaust on the same side. The hood scoops were an added bonus even if they didn’t work. I have been buying pontiacs since I could drive, in 2003 I almost defected to Ford for the 2003 Cobra that had 390HP. I weathered the storm because I had my 1997 Trans Am, I still had my Honor. I was also still getting respect for staying true even thought the GM company abandoned me with no more Trans Ams.
GM leadership if you see this please take it to heart. The GTO in that picture of the possible 2008 LOOKS LIKE CRAP! You are going to loose a lot of customers and money. Keep the Aussie thing going. Take some cues from the Holden HSV line. DO NOT PRODUCE THAT MONSTRASITY IN THE PICTURE. I have a GTO and it looks great.
I will not buy that GTO in the picture and I think there are Millons of people that would support me. Even my 13 year old son thinks that thing for 2008 looks like crap. If your gonna let a 2 year old design your cars give me a call I am 35 and I have a lot of ideas that are way better then that thing!
As a matter of fact there was an article on the 2005 GTO Judge that looked cool as hell. The orange paint was kinda cool but the design features were AWESOME. The fenders were flared and it had brake cooling to boot. The exuast was an old trans am 70’s style that was not to cool. 400 horse power or not that thing is gonna loose money. Email me and we’ll discuss the impending disaster your building.
If you want to make money and satisfy the public PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT BUILD THAT THING IN THE PICTURE for 2008.
Sincerly
Tony (Die hard Pontiac lover)

Guys!!!!!
Stop with this lets go retro with the GTO.
Move on. That was then this is now. Look at ford yea ok they went retro but one car cannot save a sinking ship.Gm has to set its goal on the future and thats not retro.Kids today who are going to buy a GTO were born in the 80s they only know what we tell them about the past.GM has to not only target the old buyers but must realy set there sites on the new generation.Keep the GTO name but go with a new bold styling and maybe just a small I mean very small touch of the past.

JERRY
I DO AGREE STOP WITH THIS RETRO GTO.

Geez, has anyone stopped to consider this is a PHOTOSHOP image based on concept drawings? The final result may or may not look like this. Besides, any real driver will tell you its not the shell that makes a car perform.

I own a 2006 GTO. It is far better looking than the new projected model for 2008. I grew up with the 60’s muscle cars and owned a 62 Chevy SS 409 convertible, and two mustangs.
If GM believes they missed the mark with the current GTO, wait till they produce the 2008 as depicted.
What is wrong with having an older American design the car. A person who grew up with the Tigers and drove them ? The new one does not have to be a clone of the 60’s, but this new design is really poor.
I own four GM cars, three our muscle cars (including the 2003 ZO6 Corvette). They ruined the C6 vette as well.
I guess I will end up buying the Dodge Challenger.

WoW! That is one ugly car. This has to be a joke. If GM is serious about putting out a car like that, they deserve to go under. My 13 year old can draw a better design than that. Come on GM, get back to the drawing board!

I own an 04 goat and was a little upset when I first heard that GM would be producing a new version of the zeta GTO. At first I thought that it would potentially destroy the long term value of my current car, but upon seeing these images I have little concern that it will damage my 2004’s apreciaion as a collectors piece. GM I never thought I would thank you guys for jacking up a car so badly.
Here’s an idea, since GM seems to be so hopped up on the idea of making a retro concept, why don’t they do just that? Every retro conversion I have seen from camaro to gto and firebird have all been miserable attempts. If you can’t copy your own vehicles properly, quit wasting the dollars on R&D. The fact that Dodge has been so on the mark with their reintroductions of the Charger and the Challenger, while GM continues to try to reclaim it’s former asthetics is pathetic.
Do it right or quit wasting the time and money, give us something with big displacment, larger tires, and head turning looks. Quit worrying about stacked headlamps and high beltlines, wedged bumpers, and “contemporary-retro” (never mind the oxymoron to begin with) looks; just produce something that is damm mean!

When you fisrt see a prototype, you have an initial reaction or impression,When I saw this GTO, mine was “WTF!!!!” Has GM lost their mind?I was born and raised in Detroit.I currently live in Los Angeles.I drive an 06 Mustang GT.If GM brings out this Mitsb GTO,I will be ashamed to say I’m from Detroit.
October 24th, 2006 at 7:19 pm
Please tell me this is a joke. I would expect the GTO to look more like the original. This looks like a Pontiac version of the Dodge Neon.

If you’re going to bring back a retro name, then at least you should give a nod to the syling clues of the past. The Challenger and Mustang are prime examples of this. Come on GM, you can do better!
November 4th, 2006 at 9:42 pm
I really hope this is not what they are planning to release. That thing is totally disgusting, its an abomination of what the GTO is a true American Muscle Car.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:07 pm
Ok, two words. Photo Shop! This is an obvious fake. That is the something similar to the front end off the Firebird concept hacked onto the back end of what appears to be a Holden. The color doesn’t even match from the front end to the back and you can see where the they tried to blend it in just aft of midway back on front wheel well. The front of the car looks like artwork while the back looks like an actual photograph. There that is my 2 cents worth…
November 8th, 2006 at 2:42 pm
You guys could do better!

It looks like a fuckin ugly ass bird!!!!!
It’s UGLY

You must release the 2008 Trans Am. We have waited years for someone to realize a new model that resembles the 79 model would sell faster than you could make them.
November 17th, 2006 at 8:56 pm
i happen to like it ,,, but i agree the trans am would sell really fast ,,, so please release it
December 9th, 2006 at 12:29 am
This car would be another mistake by GM to put the legendary nameplate on this vehicle. When recreating a legendary vehicle you need to bring back not only the vehicle design from the past that was sucessful, but also the unique features that came on the cars, splintered exhaust, hide away headlights, ram air, judge options ect. if chrysler can do it why cant gm. Put some extra money in to r and d it will pay off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look Lady’s and Gentlemen,, It’s us Baby boomers who will make or break any idea of a “retro” auto. Let’s face it,we have the money to spend on these cars. Retro is in , it’s our chance to own a car that looks like the one’s we dreamed about, but were too young to buy.But if Detroit thinks this is a “G.T.O” then i’ll just buy a “Challenger”.

RELAX Ladys and Gentlmen
A very good source at GM has told me that car in the photo above will never come out.The Camaro that you see now was orig/ A Pontiac GTO.It had
a retro front (FOR ALL YOU RETRO BUFFS)and a different rear facia and int was retro Pontiac style.GM put a Camaro front and rear facia and changed the int for that auto show. Soon you will see some wild photos of a new GTO or poss.
