2008 Land Rover LR2
Tuesday, January 16th, 2007
Making its debut at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Land Rover LR2 is a brand new premium compact SUV and is the fourth new model from Land Rover in just four years. Featuring an incredible design, purposeful stance, spacious interior and a number of technological features, the LR2 adds a new dimension to the compact SUV segment.
All new from the ground up, the “LR2 combines the advantages of a premium sedan such as polished ride, accomplished performance and an attractive cabin with the attributes of a robust SUV,” said Richard Beattie, executive vice president, marketing and sales, Land Rover North America.
Fit for serious off-roading, the LR2’s body is a five-door monocoque structure with a high level of torsional rigidity which benefits refinement, comfort and handling. The suspension is fully independent and uses the most modern stability control systems, including Roll Stability Control, a sophisticated technology that helps mitigate the risk of roll-over even in extreme conditions.
Inside the premium compact SUV is spacious head, shoulder and legroom in both the front and rear. “Stadium seating” is featured for rear passengers where occupants sit slightly higher than the front for a clearer view. Cargo space is among the best in class at 58.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folder and 26.7 cubic feet with the rear seats up.
Powering the LR2 is a brand-new 230-horsepower 3.2-liter inline six-engine that can go zero to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The engine is matched to a new six-speed automatic transmission with Land Rover’s CommandShift offering manual sequential gear changes when required. A driver-selectable sport mode is also available for a more lively performance.
Packed with a host of new technological features, the LR2 is equipped with a standard Terrain Response for better off-roading, new permanent intelligent all-wheel-drive system and the patented Gradient Release Control, which improves control when releasing the brakes on steep and slippery slopes.
Other features and options include keyless starter button, bi-xenon headlights, adaptive front lighting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear park distance control, standard two-part panoramic sunroof and air conditioning and a full-color touch-screen DVD satellite navigation system is optional.
The Premium Audio System offered features Dolby Pro Logic II 7.1 Surround Sound. Complete with 14 speakers, including a subwoofer, the system is played through an in-dash six-disc CD changer. An auxiliary audio connection (for MP3 players) is also standard.
