2006 Toyota Tacoma
Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

The 2006 Toyota Tacoma continues where it left off in 2005 with just a few minor updates. Equipped with a front bench seat and receiving an advanced dual-stage airbag system, The 2006 Toyota Tacoma has improved steering and interior trim. This all new and improved Tacoma 4.0-liter V6 provides strong performance out of an economy sized pickup truck with an affordable price.
The 2006 model was redesigned, making the truck larger and more powerful. All Tacomas get a tire-pressure monitor as the only change of note for 2006. Toyota’s compact pickup offers three cab styles: regular cab, extended Access Cab with rear-hinged rear doors, and the Double Cab with four conventional side doors. Regular cabs have bucket seats or a 3-passenger bench. The others seat five via front bucket seats and a 3-place rear bench.
Regular and Access use 6-ft-long cargo beds, Double Cabs 5- and 6-ft beds; all have a dent-resistant plastic liner. The 236-hp V6 teams with a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. Both are available with rear-wheel drive or with 4-wheel drive that should not be left engaged on dry pavement, but has low-range gearing. ABS is standard for all Tacomas. The sporty X-Runner is an Access Cab with V6, 6-speed manual transmission, aero lower body trim, low-riding sport suspension, and 18-inch wheels. Other Tacomas have 15-, 16-, or 17-inch wheels, depending on model or option package.
It is wide selection of models that are larger, more maneuverable, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient than the compact trucks they replaced. Leading the Tacoma line in performance and style is the exciting X-Runner model that blends concept-truck design with sports car performance from a 236-horsepower V6 engine and a specially tuned chassis.
The Double Cab with the standard five-foot bed shares the 127.8-inch wheelbase, and the Double Cab long-bed models ride on a 140.9-inch wheelbase. Front and rear track have been widened by nearly four inches compared to the previous-generation Tacoma, yielding more than four inches of additional shoulder and hip room.
Tacoma steps to the front of this class with its comfortable cab, refined ride, responsive handling, proven off-road capability, and quality construction. Properly equipped V6 models are rated to tow up to 6,500 pounds. In every way, this latest Tacoma improves on all the attributes that loyal Tacoma owners have cherished in the past, while increasing interior roominess and refinement. Perhaps most important, Tacoma enjoys Toyota’s reputation for quality, durability and reliability.
A wide choice of models is available, ranging from a $14,000 work truck to a $30,000 4×4 Double Cab. The former is among the few regular-cab pickups available today as the market has moved to extended-cab and crew cab styles.
