1989 Saab 900 Given To Wisconsin Automotive Museum
Friday, December 22nd, 2006
A United States man who gave away his Saab vehicle to a museum after working up whopping 1,6 million kilometres has been given a free replacement vehicle. Saab didn’t give anything at first to the salesman Peter Gilbert after he gave his 1989 Saab 900 to the Wisconsin Automotive Museum.
But the Swedish car giant has now had a change of heart and decided to give him a new Saab 9-5 Aero. “I am on cloud nine right now. This is exactly the car I wanted,” Mr Gilbert said. Saab verified the high mileage on Mr Gilbert’s car last summer. He had hoped they would give him a new car then - but he didn’t get so much as a T-shirt.
That all changed after Mr Gilbert’s story was carried by newspapers and other media around the world. The company has now decided to not only give him a new car, but to extend the offer to anyone who puts up 1,6 million kilometres on their originally owned Saab. “We have no idea, frankly, how many cars that will be. At this point, we only know of Peter’s car,” said Saab spokesperson Jan-Willem Vester.
In January, Saab will take his old car out of the museum for a showing at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “We thought it would be great to have the car there with a big sign on the windshield that says 1,6 million kilometres,” Vester said.
